About CheckMyFood

A free tool to look up official food recall records by brand and product type.

What we do

CheckMyFood helps people find official food recall records by brand. We organize public enforcement data into a searchable directory so you can see what is on file for a brand or product category.

How to use

  1. Start on the home page and pick a product category, or open Directory to browse the full list.
  2. Use the header search to find a brand across the full directory.
  3. Open a brand page to view recall records, including product descriptions, reasons, and classifications.
  4. Visit Latest to see the most recently reported recalls across all brands.

Data sources

Recall records come from official public enforcement databases. Currently included: U.S. FDA food enforcement data via the OpenFDA Food Enforcement API. Additional regional sources may be added over time.

Product descriptions, recall reasons, classifications, and other fields are displayed verbatim—we do not rewrite or summarize official text from the source record. To learn what classes, status values, and field names mean, see How to read a recall record, which quotes FDA definitions and links to openFDA field docs.

Educational pages (our Food safety library and related explainers) are written for the public and link to consumer materials published by agencies such as the CDC, FoodSafety.gov (FDA/USDA/CDC), MedlinePlus (NIH), EPA, and FDA. Those pages are for general education only—not medical advice—and are not a substitute for the linked official sources.

We keep this database up to date from official public sources so recent recalls and status changes stay current.
