Hepatitis A is a contagious liver infection. FoodSafety.gov links foodborne spread to raw or undercooked shellfish, raw produce, contaminated water, and foods handled by an infected person.
Symptoms can include diarrhea, jaundice, fever, fatigue, nausea, and loss of appetite. Illness usually lasts less than two months.
CDC recommends hepatitis A vaccination for many groups. Wash hands frequently and avoid raw shellfish from questionable sources.
