Vibrio

Bacteria found in coastal waters; some species cause illness from raw or undercooked seafood.

Vibrio species live in salt or brackish water. FoodSafety.gov notes that most infections come from eating raw or undercooked shellfish, especially oysters.

Illness can include diarrhea, vomiting, and abdominal pain. Some Vibrio species can cause severe infections, especially in people with certain health conditions.

Cook shellfish before eating and avoid raw shellfish if you are in a higher-risk group.
